The investigation of chemical processes with Reaction Calorimetry in combination with online monitoring of the concentrations of the educts, intermediates and product strongly accelerates the scale-up process. This approach results in an optimized, economic, safe and well understood production process.
The heat dissipation in a stirred tank reactor is decisive for the scale-up of the process. Problems frequently appear in practice in this connection regarding the scale-up procedure. Scaling-up gives satisfactory results only with known heat transfer coefficients. Thus, thermal resistances and reaction rates being known only approximately require safety limits with large margins. The batch times are increased thereby and hence lowering the productivity of the process.
The RC1 reaction calorimeter workstations incorporate the latest reactor and software technologies, providing a new generation of reaction calorimetry tools for Process Scale-up by allowing accurate measurement of thermal resistances and the heat evolved from reactions in the laboratory.
