California Legislation Seeks Disclosure of Test Results

Due to recent food safety problems, two California legislators have introduced a state bill that would require food processors to disclose laboratory test results.

The proposed legislation would require food processors to alert state authorities to positive test results for a “dangerous contaminant” within 24-hours.

In addition, the proposed legislation would require processors to develop detailed food safety plans and mandate periodic testing. The California bill did not identify specific contaminants or testing programs.
