Green IT – METTLER TOLEDO is committed to an environmentally-sensitive product policy
Reducing the amount of energy required in production and use of the scales, optimising the energy balance and the environmental impact by using long-life materials: METTLER TOLEDO’s production and design policy as well as the processes in the logistics and service section of the company are true to the Green-IT ideal.
ISO 14001: For the production of their retail scales, METTLER TOLEDO maintains a management system which is certified according to ISO 14001 using the PDCA-Method (Plan-Do-Check-Act) to ensure that the environmental performance of the company is continuously improving.
WEEE: METTLER TOLEDO is a company with an ecological conscience and supports the ideas that are the ba-sis of the EU guideline 2002/96/EG WEEE (Waste Elec-trical and Electronic Equipment). It is especially impor-tant for the company that their products can be easily recycled and disposed of and that this is carried out prop-erly. In order to prevent the products being disposed of in the unsorted general waste, METTLER TOLEDO have, since 13 August 2005, labelled all of their products with the appropriate symbol.
RoHS: Almost all of the products sold by METTLER TOLEDO fall into the product categories 8 and 9 of the EU guideline 2002/95/EG RoHS for the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and elec-tronic equipment. These categories are, for the time be-ing, not required to comply with the upper limits for cer-tain substances as laid down in RoHS. Since 1 July 2006 METTLER TOLEDO has voluntarily adhered to the strict limits specified in RoHS for all newly launched products.
Materials: The company prefers to use mostly steel pan-els and powder-coated aluminium for the casings. Both are long-life materials and excellently suitable for later recycling.
Energy: In the course of 2009, METTLER TOLEDO is going to equip all of their scales, which have a display, with a time-controlled deactivation and a sleep mode. Depending on the choice of model, the food retailer can thus reduce the power consumption of his scales by 20 to 25 per cent. Time-controlled deactivation and sleep mode will be available for all operating systems.
Logistics: METTLER TOLEDO uses returnable-systems in the production in order to save packing material. On top of that the company is continually working to opti-mise their supply chain processes in order to secure the shortest transport routes. Wherever possible and reason-able, METTLER TOLEDO prefers to use suppliers from the region to keep the transport routes short.
Service: In future METTLER TOLEDO customers will have the opportunity to take greater advantage of the re-mote servicing and maintenance processes by using the InTouch™ Enabled Remote Services. This protects the environment because, in many cases, servicing will be able to be carried out and faults rectified without having to send a technician.
