This presentation will focus on a series of experiments using parallel synthesis. A library of 24 amines (secondary and tertiary) was synthesized in parallel using a silica supported cyanoborohydride reagent. The reductive amination reaction produced the desired products through screening reaction conditions in parallel (time of reaction, solvents) and improved yields from minimal effort. In addition workup was also minimized and performed in parallel via filtration of the reaction mixtures.
Guest presenter - Dr François Béland of SiliCycle Inc
François Béland is the Vice-President of R&D at SiliCycle Inc. He received his PhD in 1999 from Laval University in Quebec City where he studied silica based catalysts by different spectroscopy methods. After his PhD he went to Montpellier, France for post-doctoral studies at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie de Montpellier where he studied different catalytic reactions in organic chemistry catalyzed by silica-based heterogeneous catalysts. He started working at SiliCycle as a researcher after his post-doc. A year later he was promoted to R&D Director where his focus was to develop the SiliaBond product line. In 2006, Dr. Béland also became responsible for marketing. Recently he was named Vice-President Chemistry. François has 15 years of experience with silica-based product for different applications in chromatography and organic chemistry. Dr. Béland hosts seminars at customer’s sites worldwide and provides, with his group, technical support and training to the sales representatives, agents, distributors, and clients for all of SiliCycle’s product lines.
